Symscape has announced the latest release of Caedium (v4.0), which the company says can perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for free surfaces, such as those that form between water and air around a ship’s hull.

The new multiphase capability in Caedium uses a volume of fluid (VOF)  solver to simulate the interaction between two immiscible fluids and the free surface between them. According to the company, applications for which VOF is well suited include maritime flows, environmental water flow, simulation of rotating machiner, porous media simulation,  and simulation of fans at boundaries and embedded within a flow drain.

The new release enables users to run larger simulations on Mac OS X via the 64-bit version of the software. Users can turn simulations around faster with more aggressive default parallel preferences, and use Windows HPC Scheduler services in Azure without an on-premise installation of Windows HPC Server.

The new release also enables the visualization of wall heat flux and density fields when supported by a solver.
