Noran Engineering Inc. (NEi; Westminster, CA) announced the release ofversion 9 of its NEi Nastran FEA (finite element analysis) software onMonday, April 17. Calling NEi Nastran V9 “a major upgrade,” the newversion of this high-end engineering analysis and simulation softwareis said to embrace more than 50 customer-driven enhancements. In itsrelease announcement, the company emphasized that NEi Nastran offersfunctionality specifically designed for users in the aerospace,automotive, and maritime industries.
Major features in NEi Nastran V9, according to NEi, include support forautomated internal superelement generation, enhanced nonlinear anddynamic solutions, and support for XDB results neutral files (theNastran XDB format you to import results into Femap and otherpostprocessors selectively). Compared with earlier versions, V9 is saidto solve nonlinear analyses up to 2x faster, while its enhanced Lanczoseigensolver is said to be more than 4x faster performance on modelswhere 50 or more modes are requested.
New features include b-directional slide and rough surface contact, andcomposite laminate failure theory based on the Puck PCP criteria, andsupport for model input files over 10 million lines in size.Enhancements are legion, including such areas as shell and solidelement initial strain, support for model input files over 10 millionlines in size, and better surface contact weld elements withsignificant protrusion. The company has enhanced Nastran Editor with anautomatic HTML report generator, shear flow plots, and assignmentplots, and its X,Y plotting interface has been enhanced.
