NCDMM’s Ralph Resnick Re-elected to Serve as a 2019 SME International Director

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) announces that NCDMM President and Chief Executive Officer, America Makes Founding Director, and Fellow of SME (FSME), Ralph Resnick was recently reelected to serve as a 2019 SME International Director.
“I am honored to continue to serve SME as an International Director,” says Ralph Resnick, NCDMM president and chief executive officer. “I look forward to sharing the responsibility of the ongoing growth and viability of this very large and esteemed professional society with my fellow International Directors. With members in 70 countries and a network of hundreds of chapters worldwide, SME influences more than half a million manufacturing engineers, executives, and practitioners annually.”
The International Directors serve as the governing body of SME and are elected by the entire voting membership of SME. The 2019 SME International Directors’ term commenced this month. Resnick joins five other industry leaders as 2019 SME International Directors, including:
- Winston F. Erevelles, Ph.D., professor of Engineering and dean of the School of Science, Engineering, and Technology, St. Mary’s University;
- Vincent W. Howell, Sr., FSME, CMfgE, Corning Inc. (retired);
- Thomas R. Kurfess, Ph.D., FSME, P.E., chief manufacturing officer, Oak Ridge National Laboratory;
- Dean S. Phillips, production enhancement engineer, LINK Systems;
- Steven R. Schmid, Ph.D., FSME, P.E., professor, Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana; program director for Manufacturing Machines and Equipment, National Science Foundation, Alexandria, Virginia;
- Rebecca R. Taylor, senior vice president, Strategy and Business Development, The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences and
- Albert J. Wavering, FSME, chief of the Intelligent Systems Division (ISD) of the Engineering Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology
SME also recognized the International Directors serving in new leadership roles. Officers include:
- President: Mark L. Michalski, MKS Instruments;
- President-Elect: Susan M. Smyth, Ph.D., FSME, General Motors (retired);
- Vice President: Michael D. Packer, FSME, VP, Manufacturing Strategy & Technical Integration, Lockheed Martin;
- Treasurer: Dianne Chong, Ph.D., FSME, The Boeing Co. (retired) and
- Secretary: Jim W. Schlusemann, President, Prosperia International.
Additionally, SME also recognized its 2018 Class of Fellows, who are selected once a year from among the highest achievers of industry, academia and government, and nominated only by honorary, fellow, life or professional members of SME. Those selected as fellows have 20 years or more of manufacturing experience and expertise. They have contributed to the social, technological and educational benefit of manufacturing and the engineering profession.

- Frank W. Gayle, ScD, FSME, deputy director, Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, Office of Advanced Manufacturing, National Institute of Standards and Technology;

- Bernhard Karpuschewski, Dr.-Ing., FSME, professor and director, Leibniz IWT University of Bremen;
