Moldflow Corporation(Framingham, MA) recently announced the immediate availability ofMoldflow Plastics Advisers (MPA) version 7.3. Moldflow positions MPA as aneasy-to-use, 3D solids-based simulation software tool that enablesplastics part and mold designers to validate and optimize designs formanufacturability.
MPA is said to help design and manufacturing firms cut time to market byproviding feedback on whether a part can be manufactured before a moldis created. Moldflow says such MPA analysis often leads to lowerproduction costs through material savings and shorter cycle times aswell as improved part quality by resolving warpage and defects such asweld lines and sink marks.
MPA 7.3 includes enhancements aimed at increasing robustness and accuracy of results. Among them are improved thicknesscalculations. Part thickness directly influences injection pressure, temperature, clamp force, weld lines, fiber orientation, and potentialpart warpage and MPA 7.3 has significant improvements in thicknesscalculation. As a result, says Moldflow, the quality of filling results and warpageprediction has improved.
Another key improvement cited by Moldflow is MPA 7.3’s abilityto validate analysis results for thicker parts. MPA 7.3 alsoperforms geometric analysis of thick regions, which are moredifficult to analyze. Results will indicate an opportunity to reducepart thickness, and consequently cooling and cycle times, or willspecify whether the model is more suited for 3D analysis, which isoffered in Moldflow Plastics Insight (MPI).
