BOXX Technologies, the manufacturer of customized desktop, rendering and mobile workstations for design, simulation and similar compute-intensive jobs, has announced that its GoBOXX MXL and GoBOXX 15 SLM series of mobile workstations are now available with the new Intel Core i7 processor (formerly called Skylake) and Maxwell Quadro Graphics from NVIDIA.
The GoBOXX MXL laptops are designed to function as desktop replacements, according to BOXX. Series members are offered with 15.6- and 17-in. 1080 pixel panel displays with most other features being identical. The GoBOXX MXL can drive up to three external displays in addition to its primary 1080p display.
A recommended GoBOXX MXL is built around a 4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of DDR memory and a 4GB NVIDIA M3000M graphics video card. Features include 256GB of SSD (solid-state drive) primary storage with up to 2000MB/s read speeds, full-sized keyboard with number pad and Creative Labs’ X-Fi audio with a headphone amplifier. The laptop has a heat pipe cooling system with dual fans. It can accommodate up to 64GB of memory, and it runs under the user’s choice of 64-bit professional editions of Microsoft Windows 7 or 10.
The 17-in. GoBOXX 17 MXL weighs 8.6 lbs. with its 8-cell battery installed, while the 15-in. GoBOXX 15 SLM weighs a pound less. Ports and connectivity features include networking, a 6-in-1 card reader, an HDMI port, dual Mini Display 1.2 ports, four USB ports, a Thunderbolt port, an eSATA/USB 3.0 combination port and a webcam.
The ultra-thin GoBOXX 15 SLM mobile workstation is available in editions built around a quad-core Intel Core i7 6700HQ 2.6GHz (3.5GHz Turbo Boost) CPU or a high-performance Core i7 6920HQ 2.9GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) CPU. Either edition deploys NVIDIA Quadro M2000M graphics and the user’s choice of a full HD (high definition) 15.6-in. panel or UHD resolution display screen. The GoBOXX 15 SLM delivers performance that’s described by BOXX as “top of the class,” where the majority of a user’s applications are single threaded, such as with CATIA, SOLIDWORKS and 3ds Max.
In addition to a quad core2.6GHz Intel Core i7 processor and a 4GB Quadro M2000M, a recommended GoBOXX 15 SLM Skylake-based laptop configuration features 16GB of DDR4 memory, 256GB of SSD primary storage and 1TB of storage in a 2.5-inch drive bay. It has integrated networking, two USB 3.0 ports, one Thunderbolt port and connections for HDMI, audio, Mini Display, microphone and headphones. Memory is upgradable to 32GB.
With its six-cell battery, the GoBOXX 15 SLM weighs 4.36 lbs. Folded, it measures 0.78-in. thick. The GoBOXX 15 SLM supports 64-bit professional editions of Microsoft Windows 7 or 10.
Pricing for recommended configurations the GoBOXX 15 SLM begins at $2,718. A performance edition with the 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 32GB of RAM starts at $3,522. Pricing for a recommended configuration of a GoBOXX MXL with a 15.6-in. display begins at $3,721 while a recommended 17-in. GoBOXX MXL starts at $3,279.
