Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stylus Automotive Pvt. Ltd., a design services company, have chosen think3’s ThinkDesign as the best CAD package for the Vehicle Design Summit project to design the VDS Vision 100 eco-friendly car.
The aim of the Vehicle Design Summit is to serve as a launch pad for a global consortium drawing from academia, industry, and the public/private sector to solve some of the most pressing challenges of our time. The VDS team at MIT—coordinated by VDS project founder Director, Anna Jaffe—got in touch with Stylus Automotive to start a collaboration for the design of a hybrid vehicle, an eco-friendly car for the Indian market: VDS Vision 100.
Stylus Automotive had been approached by MIT VDS team to work on the styling and conceptual design of the vehicle. For the MIT VDS project, Stylus Automotive had chosen ThinkDesign.
The result of this project, the VDS Vision 100, is designed for the busy streets of India. Its entry is both a car and a strategy to deal with congestion and enable development in a way that will lead to more vibrant, safe, and enjoyable urban centers.
“We at Stylus Automotive were looking to create a unique yet economical design development process, which complemented our brand of global design services for our clients. We narrowed down to ThinkDesign after trying out other software, as it is an ‘art to part’ software, and is applicable in three stages, from styling concept 3D models and quick variations, to engineering support, to creation of tooling design,” said Sanghamitra Datta, Stylus Automotive founder.MIT’s VDS project has also been entered in the Progressive Automotive XPRIZE contest.
