MathWorks has expanded its partnership with Siemens Automation Systems to increase its offerings for model-based design. Engineers can now generate code in Simulink and use it in Siemens SIMATIC S7 modular PLC (power line communication) controllers and SIMATIC WinAC RTX software controllers.
This collaboration helps engineers design and test advanced control strategies through simulation, the company states.
The Simulink PLC Coder generates IEC61131-3 compliant SCL code that can then be integrated into the STEP 7 V5.5 engineering system. For more intensive algorithms, the Embedded Coder creates ANSI/ISO C code that can be used on WinAC RTX using the WinAC Target. This platform automatically generates all the require files and program modules to run Simulink algorithms on WinAC RTC.
“An increasing number of control engineers in the machinery and automation industries use simulation and automatic code generation to supplement programming industrial controllers, helping them to move faster from ideas to implementation and to expand their lead in innovation,” said Philipp Wallner, industry manager, Industrial Automation & Machinery at MathWorks.
