According to the company, the new release includes improved support material for objects with overhangs, all new rafts that are easy to detach, and better handling of narrow features, new infill patterns (cats included), and more.
Support structures are extruded materials that MakerWare can add to a 3D model in order to reinforce objects with overhangs. The new version of MakerWare only generates supports where they are needed. The support material pattern has also been changed, so it’s easier to break away.
A raft is a thin foundation of extruded material that helps an object stick to the build plate during a print, keeping it level and secure. The new rafts detach more easily, creating a smoother bottom surface. The solution also includes new infill patterns.
MakerBot Firmware 7.3.0 is also available, including improvements, bug fixes, and an automatic pause for changing filament colors during a print.
