Lenovo Launches Two PC Workstations

Lenovo (NewYork)  entered two new PC workstations into the market by unveiling the ThinkStation S10 and D10, both of which are designed for professionals in data and graphics-intensive environments, particularly computer aided design/engineering, digital content creation, oil and gas exploration, and electronic design automation.

Using the latest Intel processors, Lenovo says its new workstations enable customers to run multiple applications at the same time,  all while maintaining efficiency, speed, memory, throughput, performance, and reliability.

ThinkStation S10 and D10 workstations are based on the upcoming Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5400 series and Intel Core2 Extreme processors,  the first processors based on new 45-nanometer technology that nearly doubles the density of transistors on the chips for new levels of energy-efficient performance. Plus, Lenovo’s thermal design provides workstation performance with the acoustics of a standard Lenovo desktop PC.

The dual processor ThinkStation D10 workstation (which starts at approximately $1,739) will offer the Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5400 series; the single processor ThinkStation S10 workstation (which starts at approximately $1,199) will offer the latest Intel Core 2 processors including the Intel Core2 Extreme processor QX9650 along with the latest graphics solutions from NVIDIA.

The two workstations come equipped with dual Gigabit Ethernet and multiple slots, bays and USB ports for expandability.

Beyond the high-performance focus, Lenovo says its models comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star 4.0 requirements,  using up to 80 percent efficient power supplies. They also contain more than 50 percent recycled plastics content.

Lenovo is collaborating with leading independent software vendors (ISVs) to obtain the certifications for seamless hardware and software interaction and the company will offer a variety of storage, graphics adapters,  memory and rail kits for the workstations. To help reduce system downtime, the workstations come equipped with ThinkVantage Technologies including Rescue and Recovery, Client Security System, and Image Ultra Builder.

Lenovo says it is the first new product group to join the Think-family of PCs since it acquired IBM’s Personal Computing Division in 2005. The company also says ThinkStation marks more than ten years since a major PC vendor has entered the workstation market.
