Autodesk Inc.(San Rafael, CA) has released the new Autodesk DWF Toolkit, a softwaredevelopment kit for the creation of applications that read, write, view, print, and query DWF files. This version of the DWF Toolkit, which for the first time supports multiple operating systems includingthe Mac OS from Apple and Linux, also includes the latest in DWFtechnology, such as 3D support, easier access to 2D APIs, and theability to access DWF Composer markup data as well as object propertiesfrom AutoCAD 2006-based products.  Free to developers, the DWFToolkit reinforces Autodesk’s commitment to making its DWF platform awidely available open-source solution.

“We expanded the availability of the Autodesk DWF toolkit to enableMac, Linux, and other developers realize their ideas in creating, reading, and parsing files in the open, pervasive DWF format,” saidBrian Matthews, senior architect in Autodesk’s Collaboration Servicesgroup. “We have worked to create a software development kit that can beused throughout the design industry without limiting itsfunctionality.”

DWF is an open, standards-based specification that enables designers toshare intelligent design data with project team members andnon-designers without compromising accuracy, security, or originalintent. A wide range of users from beginners to advanced developers canuse the DWF Toolkit to develop applications that read or writemulti-sheet 2D or 3D drawings in DWF. The DWF specification plus thelibraries to read, write, view, query, and print DWF files areavailable for free from the Autodesk website. Additionally, AutodeskDWF Viewer and DWF Composer can be embedded as an ActiveX control inweb pages, third-party applications, and Microsoft applications, andcustomized via APIs.
