Large-Format Desktop Printers Released

gCreate LLC has launched two new FFF (fused filament fabrication) large-format 3D printers, the gMax 1.5+ and gMax 1.5 XT+. The systems offer print volumes of 16 x 16 x 12 in. and 16 x 16 x 21 in., respectively, and are equipped with features for higher functionality and greater modifiability, the company states.

The gMax series’ base extruder can print in a variety of materials including PLA (polylactic acid), ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), Ninja Flex, and Stainless steel PLA. The company reports that it has tested more than 50 materials.

These desktop-sized 3D printers features include a metal x-axis extruder plate for simplified leveling and tool head changing as well as a laser-cut, all-aluminum bed carriage that, says the company, allows for trouble-free calibration and bed swapping. Both 3D printers have the ability for a dual extruder add-on and a carbon fiber printed parts option. These upgrades, according to the company, allow for experimental add-ons such as 2D pen plotting.

The gMax 1.5 series 3D printers measure 28.5 x 24 x 21.5 in. (W x D x H). Their weight ranges from approximately 30 lbs. (gMax 1.5 +) to 35 lbs. (gMax 1.5 XT +). Print layer thickness ranges from 80 to 360 microns, and users can set layer heights in 40-micron increments. The gMax 1.5 series is compatible with all major slicing and hosting software, according to the company, including CURA, Simplify3D and Slic3r.

Both models ship fully assembled, calibrated and tested. The gMax 1.5+ starts at $2,495 while the gMax 1.5 XT+ starts at $2,995.

Both the gMax 1.5+ and the gMax 1.5 XT+ 3D printers are available immediately. Pricing includes shipping within the U.S. On the gCreate website, users can download complimentary 3D models. Upgraded metal part models will soon be available for existing customers through the gCreate online store.
