Kreon (Limoges, France) plans to unveil its Aquilon scanner tomorrow at the Euromold show in Frankfurt, Germany. According to Kreon, the Aquilon captures up to 1 million pps at 5 µm accuracy. The inspection and reverse engineering tool is said to integrate seamlessly into all hardware and software environments.

Scanning speed is controlled and adjusted by the user to the data density required by the application. According to Kreon, its engineers developed state-of-the-art technology to increase system performance, accuracy, and data output. The Aquilon uses dual cameras and laser triangulation to digitize complex surfaces by sweeping over the object like a paintbrush. Functions to evaluate optimal scanning distance and display of real-time preview of scanned data enable users to control settings that guarantee superior surface quality.

The Kreon Aquilon further increases accuracy with its integrated contact probe, a combination of traditional metrology and non-contact measurement technology. No hardware has to be exchanged to switch from one mode to the other.

With the online production capabilities of the system, measurements can be performed right on the machine that’s producing the part and CAD-to-part comparisons can be immediately carried out to measure deviations. But the system also suits product design, tooling and moldmaking, sheet metal manufacturing, gap and flush measurement in the automotive, aerospace, and consumer products industries as well as medical reconstruction needs.

The Aquilon’s open architecture guarantees direct access to a comprehensive suite of inspection, 3D measurement and reverse engineering tools: operators can scan right inside their application software, and immediately create a CAD file from inspection data.
