ISC 2019 Kicks Off with Spotlight on High-Performance Computing

A total of 3,345 high-performance computing practitioners and enthusiasts from over 50 countries are in attendance at the 2019 ISC High Performance conference and exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, June 16-20, 2019. A total of over 3,500 attendees are expected at this year’s show. Now in its 34th year, this mid-year event is one of Europe’s largest HPC forums, ISC reports.
The first day was devoted to tutorial sessions, followed by the main program, which runs from Monday, June 17 through Wednesday, June 19. The event wraps up on Thursday, June 20, with workshops. The organizers have lined up a program covering high-performance computing topics, encompassing servers, networking, storage, software tools and applications. The two special-focus tracks, the Industrial Day and the Machine Learning Day, return once again this year with all new sessions for practitioners and researchers engaged in those application areas.
The accompanying exhibition will display product demonstrations and research projects from 165 key vendors, research centers and universities in the HPC space.
Opening Session
The conference opened on June 17. The keynote address was delivered by by Ivo Sbalzarini, the chair of Scientific Computing for Systems Biology on the faculty of computer science of TU Dresden, and senior research group leader with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden. He will be discussing the intersection between HPC and systems biology.
Another high point on Monday is the announcement of the 53rd TOP500 list at 11:00 a.m. Project co-founder Erich Strohmaier will present the highlights of the new rankings and discuss the latest trends.
First held in 1986, ISC High Performance is a European conference and networking event for the HPC community. It offers a 5-day technical program focusing on HPC technological development and its application in scientific fields, as well as its adoption in commercial environments.
Over 400 expert speakers and 160 exhibitors, consisting of research centers and vendors, will greet attendees at ISC High Performance. A number of invited programs complement the Monday to Wednesday keynotes, including the Distinguished Speaker Series, the Industry Track and the Machine Learning Track.
