INUS Releases Rapidform Spinoffs

INUS Technologies, developer of Rapidform 3D scanning software, rolled out two major software releases at DMS (Design Engineering and Manufacturing Solutions Expo) in Tokyo, Japan, at the end of June. Rapidform XOS2/Scan and XOR2/Redesign are now stand-alone applications. XOS2 is designed for mesh and surface generation, and XOR2 produces parametric solid models. . Their interfaces have been updated for ease of use, and new automated functions speed up many common procedures.

Rapidform XOS2/Scan incorporates functionality from XOR2/Redesign for processing point cloud data and creating watertight meshes and NURBS surfaces. Likewise, XOR2 provides point-cloud acquisition tools, such as liveScan, and cleaning, color editing and texturing functions that are components of XOS2.

According to Calvin Hur, INUS Technology’s vice-president of marketing and global sales, “We have decoupled XOS2 and XOR2 to make Rapidform more affordable, and we have increased the value with new features that our customers have requested.”

Also new is Rapidform.dll, an SDK (software development kit) that enables developers to incorporate Rapidform features within their applications to process 3D scanning data or add sophisticated 3D functions. The SDK includes virtually all of rapidform2006’s tools for working with massive point clouds and triangular meshes, as well as advanced NURBS surfacing technology, geometry fitting routines, and 3D inspection functions.

The latest versions of Rapidform XOS and XOR include improvements in automatic surface generation and an automated mesh optimization tool. According to Hur, customers in Japan specified the bulk of the features and functions in the new releases.

Rapidform XOR2/Redesign began shipping on July 1, 2007. Rapidform XOS2/Scan is slated to ship in early August.
