Intel Announces Winners of Make It Wearable Challenge

Intel has named Nixie the grand-prize winner of its first Make It Wearable challenge. The competition focuses on encouraging creativity and having innovators enhance personal computing with Intel Edison technology.

Nixie is a wearable camera. However, it has the ability to turn into a quadcopter that can follow behind its owner to take photos that might not be achievable otherwise.

As winner of the competition, Nixie has gained $500,000, which it will use for device refinement in areas such as the overall size and propellors, according to iQ by Intel.

The second- and third-place winners of Intel’s challenge were Open Bionics and ProGlove, respectively.

Open Bionics won $200,000 for its open-source 3D printing and scanning platform that brings customized products to amputees.

ProGlove received $100,000 for its invention of a glove that seeks to reduce physical work stress, improve ergonomics and reduce costly mistakes. The product is currently being piloted by BMW in Germany, iQ by Intel states.
