Eurocom Corp. recently announced that its EUROCOM Scorpius mobile workstation now supports dual MXM 3.0b NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M SLI graphics, providing users with increased graphics performance for rendering and other compute-intensive operations. NVIDIA SLI (scalable link interface) technology provides users with scaled graphics performance by combining GeForce GTX GPUs (graphics processing units) and facilitating the data flow between two graphics cards. The company also announced that it has benchmarked as well as stress tested the upgrade and that these results are publicly available (see link below).
Eurocom describes the Scorpius as a high-performance notebook computer platform designed with the flexibility to configure and upgrade its CPU, GPUs, memory, storage, networking, keyboard and display. In addition to serving as a mobile workstation, the Scorpius can be customized and configured for such roles as a professional high-performance graphics workstation, an NVIDIA CUDA (compute unified device architecture) parallel software development station and as a gaming super notebook.
The Scorpius is built on the Intel HM77 Express platform with fourth generation Intel Mobile Core i7 4xxx series CPUs. It’s equipped with dual MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) 3.0B interconnect standard for GPUs slots rated for 100W GPUs and is NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX multiple GPU technology ready. The two MXM 3.0b graphics interfaces, says Eurocom, are easily accessible to existing users and upgradeable.
The Scorpius has four memory slots for up to 32GB of dual-channel 204-pin SO-DIMM (small outline dual in-line memory module) memory. It can accommodate three storage drives, including hard disks, solid-state drives and hybrid drives. It has a 17.3-in. full high-definition 1920 x 1080 display, configurable with a user choice of a glossy or matte panel. It runs under Windows operating systems.
Miscellaneous features include an optical drive, embedded security chip, wireless networking, four USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, internal 9-in-1 card reader, backlit keyboard and sound system. A 300W AC adapter powers it, and the Scorpius has a removable 8-cell lithium ion battery. An optional second adapter provides a total of 600W.
A base configuration of the EUROCOM Scorpius mobile workstation with a 16GB of RAM, dual color graphics adapters (SLI/CF) support, 2.4 GHz Intel processor and 1TB drive costs $2,272 (US), according to the Eurocom website. Click here for further details.
