BOXX Technologies recently introduced its new GoBOXX MXL VR mobile workstation. Designed to support the immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences of users on the go, this new system also includes a number of features essential for boosting the productivity of engineers and architects seeking to incorporate mobile virtual reality into their workflow as well as for digital content creators, according to the company.
A compact mobile workstation, the GoBOXX MXL VR features a desktop-class 4GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core processor with Turbo Boost to 4.2GHz, 8GB NVIDIA GeForce 1070 or 1080 GPUs (graphics processing units), up to 64GB of RAM and a 17-in. full HD (high-definition), 1920x1080 pixel LED display. It runs 64-bit Windows 10 and supports a variety of SSD (solid-state drive), SATA SSD and mechanical storage systems for up to 1TB of data storage.
BOXX Technologies says that the GoBOXX MXL VR is capable of handling complex 3D CAD assets for development, yet also includes the graphics performance necessary to drive demanding immersive experiences found in product design or architectural VR environments. The company recommends the GoBOXX MXL for such applications as Autodesk 3ds Max, CATIA, IrisVR, Revit, SOLIDWORKS and Unity.
Communications capabilities include Intel 802.11ac Wireless LAN + Bluetooth 4.0 and Gigabit Ethernet LAN 10/100/1000 Mbps. Other hardware features include two built in speakers and a built-in 2.0M full HD video camera.
Port connections include one USB 3.1/Thunderbolt 3, four USB 3.1 (Type A), a single HDMI and two Mini Display Ports as well as line-out, line-in, microphone-in and an S/PDIF-out digital audio interconnect. The GoBOXX MXL VR is supplied with a removable 8-cell lithium-ion battery and a full range (300W 100V/240V) AC adapter.
A recommended basic configuration comes with a 4GHz Intel Core i7-6700K processor, 16GB of DDR4-2133 SODIMM (small outline dual in-line memory module) memory, an 8GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU and a 256GB SSD drive. Pricing starts at $3,389.
