Gerber Technology/Virteck Supply Advanced Technology to New Composite Prototyping Center

The Long Island Forum for Technology (LIFT) will install a GERBERcutter and laser ply layup system from Gerber Technology and its subsidiary, Virtek Vision, in its new Composite Protoyping Center (CPC).

These systems will be available to manufacturers looking to develop protoypes containing composite materials, a company press release stated.

In the CPC, Gerber will install a GERBERcutter DCS 2500 computer-controlled, static cutting system and a Virtek LaserEdge system that uses laser templates to guide operators.

The CPC, which will open in April, will be a resource for manufacturers looking to enter the composites market by offering prototype manufacturing and test capabilities. The CPC also plans to offer educational courses to support workforce training.

“Gerber is proud to support research and training initiatives with organizations like LIFT’s CPC. We currently partner with similar organizations in more than 30 countries to provide automation systems and training that advance the use of composites, textiles and technical textiles,” said Mike Elia, Gerber’s president and CEO.
