ETRAGE LLC has announced the release of the Etrage Integration Server (EIS). The EIS is a flexible, modular data transfer infrastructure that can integrate heterogeneous engineering, manufacturing and business systems from different vendors, such as CAD, product data management (PDM), product lifecycle management (PLM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), and material requirements planning (MRP) systems as well as design databases for a bidirectional exchange of data between these systems.

EIS was developed to connect systems that normally are not able to communicate, and to do it in a way that is minimally disruptive to the end users. It implements a plug-in architecture, where each system has its own set of integration actions, such as exporting bill of material (BOM) or generating part number.

There are three main components to EIS. The EIS Backbone which connects and enable communication between application plug-ins, the Configurator to connect the integration actions together and the Monitor to observe execution of the various actions as they occur in real-time.

A PLM to ERP integration is intended to provide the functionality of PLM requesting generation and transfer of a new part number from ERP to the PLM. When an assembly is released in PLM, it can automatically transfer the BOM and a viewable to the ERP system. This capability provides real-time updates of BOM changes into the ERP, provides data flow between the engineering, manufacturing and purchasing departments, minimizes manual data entry or processes of large sets of data and assists manufacturing and purchasing with up to date BOM and drawings inside the ERP system.
