ESTECO has taken the wraps off the next generation of its enterprise-level engineering knowledge management platform, touting collaboration, improved usability and support for new use cases as some of the more compelling advancements.

The new VOLTA platform, an evolution of its SOMO (Service Oriented Multidisciplinary Orchestration) offering, is a web-based collaboration environment designed to help enterprise engineering organizations leverage knowledge and processes on a global scale. The redesigned architecture ensures the platform can be tapped across devices and platforms, and the user experience has been revamped to be more accessible to non-experts, ESTECO officials said.

VOLTA picks up where SOMO left off in terms of enabling integrated management of simulation processes and data, and driving a formal optimization process throughout all levels of the organization, according to Mattis Nicolich, ESTECO’s product manager of enterprise solutions. Like SOMO, VOLTA’s service-oriented architecture facilitates the execution, sharing and reuse of enterprise engineering knowledge while extending SOMO’s simulation data management capabilities by ensuring full traceability and management of key digital files that come from different sources, Nicolich explained.

“With this release and future releases of the VOLTA family, we are increasingly focusing on the democratization of simulation and optimization as well as data consumption (Engineering Data Intelligence),” Nicolich said. “On the other side, we are introducing a complete new module for generic data management, allowing our users to collaborate and keep track of all the information to support simulation process management and results.”

With VOLTA, multidisciplinary, globally-dispersed teams can manage all cross-functional, concurrent design steps, share simulation and modeling data, and orchestrate business processes to support what ESTECO officials call a continuous innovation process that puts a focus on simulation and optimization.

The platform enables process automation to reduce the rework and promote reuse of best practices; fosters the representation of the digital twin by coupling and composing complex analysis in a process connecting tools and managing data exchange; and supports distributed execution for a more robust and scalable environment to execute simulation, according to the company.

VOLTA also introduces cross-functional capabilities to enable a process which by nature isn’t sequential, but iterative in all its phases, Nicolich said. As a result, VOLTA supports collaboration on a global scale by tracking all iterations at every step, building on top of proven patterns, and by enabling any time, anywhere access in real time, he explained.

“Complex product and systems development requires expertise, simulation data and design IP archives to be readily available and tailored to each stakeholder,” Nicolich said. “VOLTA ensures that all this information is captured and codified to build tailored design performance metrics for advanced analytics and informed decision making.”
