Computational Engineering International, Inc. (CEI; Apex,  NC) has released version 9.2 of its “extreme” engineering visualization software family EnSight. According to the company, EnSight 9.2 offers improvements to the performance, readers, and graphics quality, as well job launching for HPC (high performance computing). The latter, once configured by IT, is said to make the launch and use of EnSight faster and easier.

EnSight is made up of a family of tools offering increased functionality tuned to CAE visualization/post-processing. The software uses an icon-based user interface, and it works with most major CAD and CAE systems and data formats. EnSight’s CAD importers allow users native CAD files access without the use of the original CAD system.

Rendering in EnSight 9.2 is now faster than previous releases due to using separate composite pipelines for the 3D model and annotations such as titles. Composting of geometry, explains the company,  enables user to manipulate annotations, legends, and plots at high frame rates independent of the EnSight mode. Rendering is now also said to be smoother because it the software deploys multi-pass rendering in the graphics card,  while running interactively.

HPC Launch using CEISHELL resource launch makes using remote servers and HPC environments much easier. As well, the company reports that it is now easier to run EnSight with data on remote servers through the client-server mode. Previous users will note that a command line is no longer required. Instead, through a dialog, users specify just the machine name, user name, and password to make the connection to the remote machine.

Usability enhancements in 9.2 include increased interactivity by means of interactive hot-points that make themselves visible when the mouse moves over them, eliminating the need to click on an interactive object to see the hot points. Additionally, clip planes have been improved to display the original underlying tessellation. Version 9.2 also incorporates a new direct OpenFOAM reader.

EnSight family members include EnSight Lite, EnSight Standard, EnSight Gold, and EnSight DR (Distributed Rendering). A CFD-optimized version, EnSight CFD, is also available as are utilities and a variety of application extensions.

EnSight Lite and EnSight Standard are described by the company as “the mainstay applications for CAE post-processing and visualization.” EnSight Standard, which can runs as a standalone or distributed client-server application, builds off the supplied features of EnSight Lite and is said to offer the ability to read up to 16 models simultaneously,  including from different data sources. This attribute enables users to run comparisons of results between solvers, fluid-structure interaction post-processing even with coupled solvers, and optimization post-processing comparing multiple runs of the same solver against each other.

EnSight Gold and EnSight DR versions are said to be suitable for HPC or Virtual Reality applications. EnSight Gold is designed for shared memory parallel post-processing and visualization while EnSight DR is designed for distributed memory parallel post-processing and visualization.
