Dear Desktop Engineering Reader:
The key to product loyalty is user experience. It’s that sound of a door closing that tells you that you’re in a luxury car or how a smartphone nestles in your palm. It’s that “je ne sais quoi” that engineers must create and users feel instinctively.
It’s not easy. Everything from design to packaging to interfaces and feel must bind users to your product on an emotional level. And you need to innovate increasingly complex products that meet regulatory standards in tight time frames that beat your global competitors to the market. CAD and simulation are your tools. How do you do this? Today’s Check it Out link takes you to a short video that shows you a way.On the surface, “Leveraging Integrated Simulation to Develop Market-Winning Experiences” from Dassault Systèmes demonstrates the role realistic simulation plays in helping you create products that can build customer loyalty. Demonstrates is the operative word here.
Most of this 7-minute 30-second video revolves about a demonstration of a simulation of a smart clothes washer. It, like any SIMULIA analysis demo, is well worth your time on its own. Lots of cool images. But what’s truly fascinating here is the technology that imbues the simulation with knowledge that enhances and opens the way for innovative thinking.
The technology at the heart of this video is Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The mile-high description is that the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is a modular suite of integrated applications for 3D modeling, simulation, collaboration and information intelligence. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform connects the range of product development disciplines in your organization to a single source of product development information. It comes in industry tailored flavors, and can reside in the cloud or on-site.
In the washing machine demo, you learn that the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is more than that description. You see how knowledge capture, data management, analytics and collaboration come together with simulation to evaluate interactions between system performance, stress, durability and noise. Considerations include things like structural integrity, acoustics, rotational velocity, nonlinear materials, displacements, multi-step dynamic loading and contact. You’re taken through meshing, validation and the all-important optimization that can give your product the aura that builds a good customer experience.
“Leveraging Integrated Simulation to Develop Market-Winning Experiences” is exceptionally well done. You’ll likely rewind scenes for a second or third look. Kudos to the creators. Hit today’s Check it Out link and see for yourself.
Thanks, Pal. – Lockwood
