Synergis Software (Quakertown, PA) has announced the release of version 8.2 of its engineering document management and workflow solution Adept. Called “a major update,” Adept 8.2 has been enhanced with support for 32- and 64-bit Windows 7, better integration with Microsoft’s Active Directory, and a number of features described as “customer requested,” including SSL-encrypted data transfers.

“Adept 8.2 is focused on technologies that help our clients be more productive and achieve their business goals,” said Todd Cummings, vice president of research & development, Synergis Software in a press statement.
Adept 8.2 is said to seamlessly integrate with Microsoft’s Active Directory network services technology. This is said to allow Adept users to maintain a single source of user and group accounts, while ensuring the two systems stay synchronized. This benefits of this enhancement cited by the company are the elimination of redundant data entry, improved Adept administration efficiency, and lower total cost of Adept ownership.

Adept 8.2 now supports SSL-encrypted data transfers to and from Adept vaults as well as both inside and outside the firewall. It is said to uses the same level of encryption as online banking and online commerce sites. This added security option is said to improve on the strength of the Adept vaulting methodology by provide additional security without scrambling document and folder names.
“For many years our clients have been telling us this is a critical factor in their decision to select Adept,” said Cummings. “No one wants to implement a solution that holds their mission critical engineering data hostage”

Core capabilities provided by Adept include centralized document access with file check-in/check-out; text and structured search; version control; attribute and property linking; file relationship management, and batch publishing and printing. Collaboration capabilities include workflow automation, e-mail notifications, and BOM (Bill of Material) automation. Adept also offers users the ability to visualize, markup, and compare both 2D and 3D documents. Miscellaneous control and administration features include access rights controls down to granular levels, batch document importing, and automated updates and upgrades.
Adept integrates with such major design applications as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, MicroStation, and SolidWorks Integration as a variety of enterprise business systems and Microsoft Office. A scalable system, Adept also supports multi-site optimization.
