Energy-Efficient Wide-Format Plotter Saves Space

Océ (Trumbull, CT and Venlo, The Netherlands) has announced its PlotWave 300, a monochrome multifunction wide-format plotter that,  according to the company, makes it simpler and less time-consuming for small engineering and manufacturing workgroups to print, copy, and scan low volumes of technical documents. A compact, all-in-one large-format system, the PlotWave 300 is described as being designed for organizations wanting to save money and conserve space in their document production processes, especially in decentralized printing environments in which workloads from multiple users require accommodation.

The Océ PlotWave 300 printer incorporates Océ Radiant Fusing technology to fuse toner onto paper. Thin metallic tiles made of an alloy are used to efficiently radiate heat so that they heat up and cool down very quickly. That is reported to mean the system starts up instantly, uses half the energy of comparable systems, makes no noise when it is idling, and requires no extra ventilation for cooling, according to the company. The system also uses a catalytic convertor system so that that virtually no ozone emissions are produced.

The Océ PlotWave 300 has a built-in USB flash drive that lets users print and scan documents at the system. The output delivery tray is positioned on top of the system and uses air separation to prevent paper from curling and falling to the floor. Its automated roll-changing system loads,  cuts, and registers the size of the paper, and the PlotWave 300’s loading station eliminates the need for an extra table next to it. Scanning originals are fed in face-up, and the width is automatically registered to reduce scanning errors.

Critical components within the Océ PlotWave 300, such as the imaging drum and other moving parts, are enclosed to reduce contamination as well as wear and tear. High-use parts, including paper drawers and panels, are made of reinforced materials to protect them from contact with dust and extend their lifetime. The separate paper paths are said to reduce paper jams and extra wear on the system.

Technical specifications include 600 x1200 dpi print resolution, 600 x 600 dpi scanner optical resolution, two  650 ft. (max.) paper rolls, 11- by 36-inch output size width, output size length from 16.5 inches to 49.2 feet, and a built-in a 100M/s Ethernet Interface. Media types supported include plain,  recycled, colored and transparent paper as well as polyester, antistatic, and contrast film.

The Océ PlotWave 300 comes provides a single interface to view and control the system via an Internet browser without the need to install additional software. It supports most standard page description languages, and comes with drivers for Microsoft Windows, Adobe PostScript 3.
