Dear Desktop Engineering Reader:
Three items from FE-DESIGN in Germany caught my attention recently. But first some words about the company for those of you who might not yet be familiar with this growing firm.
FE-DESIGN is a CAE software developer and service provider with global clients. Its areas of expertise include FEM and CFD simulation, process automation, and optimization. It offers engineering services in those virtual product development areas as well as customized software and method development, consulting, and training. Its flagship software products are TOSCA Structure, a modular system for non-parametric structural optimization, and TOSCA Fluid. The latter, says the company, is the only system available for topology optimization of channel flow problems. Both of these CAE systems have been recently upgraded.
TOSCA Structure deploys in combination with finite element solvers like ANSYS and NX Nastran. It provides topology, shape, and bead optimization capabilities. It's said to support the complete optimization workflow from concept to high level, as well as result transfer to your CAD system and automatic model verification. TOSCA Structure has been updated with support for the latest solver versions such as Abaqus 6.11 and to work more tightly with Siemens NX CAD. It also offers new support for MSC.Software's MD Nastran and MD Nastran.
TOSCA Fluid works with your CFD simulation solution at the conceptual design phase of industrial internal turbulent flow systems and during optimization processes for existing designs. An interface for STAR-CCM+ versions 5 and 6 and upgraded support for ANSYS FLUENT version 12.1 are among the key enhancements in the latest version.
The third announcement from FE-DESIGN that attracted my eye was that the company opened a new office in the Chicago area to support its North American user base. From the sounds of it, this is a full-service, sales, consulting, and training office. This is the second new office the company has opened this summer; the other being in Hamburg, Germany.
You can read more about FE-DESIGN's TOSCA Structure and TOSCA Fluid systems in today's Pick of the Week write-up. There are a bunch of (registration-free) links to more information. Also, you might like to participate in one of the complimentary webinars the company has scheduled. Tomorrow it's TOSCA Fluid and TOSCA Structure the day after. There's a bunch more if you can't make one of those.
Thanks, pal.—Lockwood
