Canon USA Inc. has launched its updated ColorWave and PlotWave wide-format digital printers. There are two updated ColorWave models (3600, 3800), and five updated monochromatic PlotWave models (3000, 3500, 5000, 5500 and 7500). The series is designed to support the creative process for engineering and other graphics-based professional processes.

The ColorWave models use the advanced CrystalPoint digital imaging technology, which combines the best of solid toner and inkjet technology for accurate dot positioning and instantaneous drying on plain and recycled media. This allows prints to be immediately handled, stacked, folded or inserted into tubes for delivery.

PlotWave large-format printers operate with internally developed controller, print and scan technologies that allow for comprehensive, large-format black-and-white document printing, plotting, scanning, copying and document management solutions.

A tablet-style interface is standard on all models. Canon says its ClearConnect software suite simplifies the most complicated print production tasks. Documents may be printed directly from the desktop via Publisher Select or Direct Print software. There is also software for cloud-managed printing using a smartphone or tablet.

Both printer lines are compatible with a range of stackers and folders. This allows any printer in the series to be configured to meet specific requirements from the printer.

The Canon line also offers the option of compact single footprint scanning; the optional Scanner Express IV can be integrated on top of all PlotWave and ColorWave printers for simple walk-up prints, copies or scans.

Security is built-in for all ColorWave and PlotWave models. Both data and user credentials are protected in every stage of the production process. Canon says their security technology provides end-to-end safe storage, protects print data from theft or accidental leakage and restricts access to confidential files.

Canon says its ClearConnect software suite provides a streamlined workflow for all workflows, from an individual print job to a complex multi-file document set. By providing active operator warnings and accurate print previews, the software enables users to make necessary corrections before hitting print. In addition, files can be submitted to print from almost any location or device.

Publisher Select, part of the ClearConnect software suite, helps eliminate misprints and wasted materials with WYSIWYG preview on a user’s computer. The software offers dual printer support for a range of Canon’s wide-format printers and has the functionality to assign specialized media templates to print jobs or individual files within a multi-file print job.
