Anthony J. Lockwood, Corporate Editorial Director for Helmers Publishing Inc., has morethan 26 years of technical editing and writing experience including 12years at Byte magazine. He has also served in editorial capacities for General VideotextCorp. (now Delphi/Internet), InfoWorld Direct, and Sensors.
Jonathan Gourlay, Features Editor, has been in publishing for nearly two decades. Prior to his appointment as Features Editor for DE, he was a managing editor in both industry and consumer magazines, working for Ski Area Management in Woodbury, CT; Fairfield County magazine in Westport, CT; Snow Country/NYTimes Co, in Trumbull, CT; and American Iron Magazine in Stamford, CT. He was also a script writer for The Ski Watch in Hamden, CT and was Managing Editor for and The Record Citizen in Plymouth, NH.

Mark Clarkson wrote for the very first issue of Desktop Engineering. Since then, his Desktop Engineeringarticles have covered everything from data acquisition hardware to PCBdesign software. The author of a number of books on technical mattersand articles for such technical publications as BYTE and Military Times, Mr. Clarkson’s specialties include graphics and system hardware, 3D CAD, and modeling. His rendering have appeared twice on Desktop Engineering’s covers.
David Cohn, a computer consultant and technical writer basedin Bellingham, Washington, has been benchmarking PCs since 1984. He’sthe author of more than a dozen books, including AutoCAD 2002: The Complete Reference, from Osborne/McGraw-Hill.
Barry Simon is a professor of mathematics and theoreticalphysics at the California Institute of Technology. He is a contributingeditor of PC Magazine and author of numerous books, including The Mother of All Windows 98 Books (Addison-Wesley). His 1988 article with Richard Wilson in the Notices of American Mathematical Societyincluded a suite of tests that became known as Simon-Wilson benchmarksand was used for several years to evaluate mathematical software. Hehas written 12 scientific books and has more than 300 research papersto his credit.
Pamela J. Waterman is an electrical engineer and freelancetechnical writer. She holds a B.S. in astronomy from the University ofMassachusetts (Amherst) and an M.S. in radio astronomy/microwaveengineering from the University of Michigan. Ms. Waterman is the authorof more than 50 technical articles, focusing mainly on finite elementanalysis, rapid prototyping, design simulation, and electromagneticcompatibility.
