DE Design & Simulation Summit Arrives Online in October

Digital Engineering magazine will launch its inaugural online DE24/7 Design & Simulation Summit on Oct. 7. The half-day virtual event will feature five presentations led by industry experts  in simulation technology, generative design, additive manufacturing, and engineering workstations, led off by a keynote panel on digital twin solutions.

The conference kicks off at 1 p.m. EST on Oct. 7 with a live keynote panel focused on digital twin technologies, moderated by DE Senior Editor Kenneth Wong. The panel will include Daniel R. Isaacs, CTO of the Digital Twin Consortium, an industry organization focused on accelerating the growth and adoption of digital twins. Michael Kapteyn, postdoctoral fellow at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, will also participate. Kapteyn’s research focuses on developing the mathematical foundations and computational algorithms necessary to enable predictive digital twins at scale.

The conference will also feature four additional sessions focused on key enabling technologies for engineers.

In The Myths and Realities of Generative Design, ASSESS Initiative CEO and co-founder Joe Walsh and Andreas Vlahinos, CTO of Advanced Engineering Solutions, will provide an assessment of generative design software and its current level of adoption.

In his session, Designing for the Entire Additive Manufacturing Process, Mark Barfoot (director of additive manufacturing programs at EWI) will explain how to design effectively for AM parts with the manufacturing process in mind. Barfoot directs the Additive Manufacturing Consortium (AMC) and is extensively involved with the Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMUG).

Well-known simulation expert, NAFEMS trainer, and longtime Digital Engineering contributor Tony Abbey will lead the simulation track, providing insight and expertise into CAD and simulation convergence. In his session, How Can Designers Really Take Advantage of FEA?, he will examine the cross-over between CAD and FEA tools, as well as what the limits may be when it comes to designers doing structural analysis.

In addition, David Cohn, Senior Content Manager for CADLearning products at 4D Technologies and another longtime Digital Engineering contributor, will provide an overview of the latest engineering workstation trends. Cohn has reviewed countless tower and mobile workstations for DE over the years, will discuss new hardware advancements (such as new GPUs and CPUs), as well as a high-level look at key features that will be important for engineers that are in the market for new or upgraded workstations.
