Computer Simulation Technology (CST), a provider of electromagnetic simulation software, has stated it will be adding a Characteristic Mode Analysis (CMA) tool to its CST STUDIO SUITE integral equation solver. The tool will be added to the platform early next year.
With the CMA tool, engineers can tune an antenna to the correct resonant frequencies and figure out where to place the feed to couple to a specific radiating mode. This capability, according to the company, automates the process of calculating these modes, modal significance, farfield radiation pattern and surface current distribution. Automatic mode-tracking is provided as part of the tool as well.
“We have a large customer base working on mobile devices, and these users require fast, accurate methods for their designs,” says Peter Thoma, managing director R&D, CST. “CMA is one of the most effective techniques for analyzing and optimizing printed antennas, especially when the antennas need to be compact and integrated into a complex environment.”
