FloEFD, the CAD Embedded CFD (computational fluid dynamics) solution from Mentor Graphics, enhances capabilities to enable mechanical and design engineers to directly solve design challenges involving fluid flow and heat transfer earlier and faster than traditional CFD approaches, according to the company.
This solution is embedded in packages such as Siemens NX, PTC’s Creo and Dassault Systemes’ CATIA. By allowing engineers to run fluid simulation studies directly in the CAD environment where project geometry resides, Mentor Graphics says greater productivity improvements are realized as opposed to outsourcing to specialist CFD engineering resources and exporting to separate software packages.
What truly makes Concurrent CFD more productive, according to the company, is the ease of use relating to the typical time consuming steps of geometry import and fluid cavity recognition, meshing, selection and refinement, and the simulation specification itself. Mentor has created a solution with wizards and set up guides designed to automate and simplify these tasks within FloEFD to cut the complexity and time associated with some traditional methods. This results in accurate, fast CFD in the hands engineers who can revise designs more quickly by analyzing more “what-if scenarios” and make decisions earlier.
A webinar below from Mentor Graphics introduces FloEFD Concurrent CFD approach to improving engineering productivity in more detail and demonstrates in an example how design engineers using Siemens NX MCAD software can improve their everyday workflow.
