EnSuite 2.0 from CCE (Farmington Hills, MI) combines frequently used visualization and CAD translation tools into one web-centric application. CCE describes EnSuite 2.0 as “an antidote to multi-CAD woes” encountered by engineers and MCAD managers in design, manufacturing, and quality assurance environments as well as those in the extended product development team.
“To keep up in today’s dynamic, heterogeneous multi-CAD environment, CAD designers, engineers, administrators, and other users of CAD data require productivity-enhancing tools to access engineering information, and in short order.” — Debankan Chattopadhyay, CCE, Sales & Marketing Consultant |
EnSuite 2.0 provides a variety of engineering tools, viewers, and data translators, and, through its support of all major MCAD systems/formats, users do not need special MCAD software licenses.
“To keep up in today’s dynamic, heterogeneous multi-CAD environment,” says Debankan Chattopadhyay, Sales & Marketing Consultant at CCE, “CAD designers, engineers, administrators, and other users of CAD data require productivity-enhancing tools to access engineering information, and in short order.”
EnSuite’s single graphical user interface (GUI) is said to be intuitive to use and provides seamless access to the most frequently used visualization and MCAD translation tools as well as a number of utilities. CCE says that its seamless MCAD interoperability (see chart) and viewing solutions “support all major CAD systems/formats,” including CATIA V4, CATIA V5, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, NX, Parasolid, IGES, and STEP. What CCE really means by this is that you can open a file in a supported MCAD format and view it, then translate (File—>Save As) it to any other supported format (EnSuite does not translate features but it retains assembly tree structures).
Using EnSuite 2.0, you can use a variety of engineering applications and tools to access information like cut sections and check properties, overlay and compare parts (useful for QC and visual inspection), display BOM, search for features given a range (fillets less than 0.1mm etc.), isolate part (make all surrounding parts transparent in a complex assembly), measure geometry and features, and automate delivery options (translate, zip, and e-mail or ftp).
EnSuite 2.0 also supports batch translations for convenient handling of bulk data.
In addition to MCAD and image files, EnSuite can be used to view html files and text files. All the viewers are equipped with standard features like rotate, pan, zoom (+/-), fit to screen, etc. Simple measurement options are also available.
An entity tree showing the geometric entities present in the part/assembly is also displayed as part of the viewer screen.
EnSuite lets you specify delivery options for files. For example, you can choose to zip and deliver the file via e-mail or ftp — thereby making delivery of MCAD data seamless, CCE says.
A Key Feature
EnSuite does not allow the user to edit or modify the MCAD data and its search tool lets users you locate files on your computer or network using multiple search criteria such as 3D CAD, 2D CAD, and images. If one of EnSuite’s viewers support the file listed in the search results, the file can be directly opened in EnSuite with the click of a mouse.
When users access critical engineering information, it can includes batch processing, part compare, bounding box, BOM, isolate part, section cut, and feature search.
EnSuite 2.0 runs under Windows XP, and is available in both 32- and 64-bit versions.
