Bricsys, the developer of Bricscad, has announced that Bricscad is no longer based on IntelliCAD. The company is no longer member of the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium.

The Bricsys team was one of the first members at the start of the ITC. In recent years Bricsys has developed its own CAD platform, under the Bricscad brand. The release of Bricscad V8 was the first CAD platform based on the new DWGdirect libraries of the ODA, and was a departure with the former technology used in IntelliCAD.

With Bricscad V10, the availability of a set of APIs has enabled third-party developers to port their DWG-based applications to the Bricscad platform.

Another differentiator of the Bricscad technology is its ability to run on all main operating systems natively. Bricscad LINUX is in Alpha now, a commercial release is expected early Q2. A native Mac OSX version is planned for end of 2010.

“This is a logical step for our company,” says Erik De Keyser, CEO of Bricsys. “We have different opinions with the ITC about several things: being operating system independent is very important to us. We wanted a higher level of API compatibility for our customers and application developers. All this required full control on the source code in order to speed up development. But although we go separate ways, we wish the ITC and its members all the best for the future.”
