The German company Automatic Storage Device (ASD) presented its new hybrid battery for households at Intersolar North America. The device combines stand-alone and grid-tie storage systems. According to the company, this new storage system is inexpensive to produce and supply, costing 20 to 30% less than other lithium-ion batteries on the market.
The system is ideal for homeowners, who in the past had to choose between stand-alone or grid-tie power systems. With current stand-alone systems, the device shuts off if it cannot provide power to 100% of the appliances in the house, and relies on grid power. ASD’s device simply draws needed power from the grid to create a hybrid power system, instead of turning the stand-alone system off.
This battery is suitable for both AC and DC coupling, which enables more flexible planning than previous storage types. It can be charged with photovoltaic installations, CHP plants and small wind-powered generators.
“We are already seeing enormous demand for our new battery system. It combines the advantages of both stand-alone and grid-tie storage systems in one device — which is unprecedented in the market. By introducing our hybrid technology, we took a huge step towards making battery systems more efficient, and above all more cost-effective,” explains Wolfram Walter, managing director of ASD. “We are now taking this to the next level by extending our sales area to the US.”
