Aras has announced the company’s first CAD-to-3D-PDF converter embedded in a PLM vault server. Aras now supports 3D, 2D, Microsoft Office, images and scans and other data types in PDF, enabling users across to view all formats of product data in a single common user interface without buying additional software, the company says.

With the embedded converter, Aras has eliminated the need for specialized visualization formats that only handle 3D or require expensive licenses. Aras utilizes the HOOPS technology from Tech Soft 3D for the conversion of all the major 3D formats including CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, NX, JT and STEP.

“Now everyone can use the 3D content created by CAD because it’s converted to standard PDF and can be easily utilized in work instructions, tech pubs, digital mock-up and a lot more,” said Peter Schroer, president of Aras. “We believe that getting everything into a single open format, not just 3D, but also 2D drawings, schematics, in fact all product content, enables a new level of visual collaboration and lays the foundation for our secure social strategy.”
