AMD Unveils Opteron 64-Bit ARM-Based Developer Kits

AMD has launched the Opteron A1100-Series developer kit that features a 64-bit ARM-based processor. Interested hardware, software developers and large datacenters are eligible to apply. The kit is available for $2,999, a company press release states.

The Opteron A1100 Series processor supports 4 and 8 ARM Cortex-A57 cores, up to 4MB of shared L2 and 8MB of shared L3 cache, configurable dual DDR3 or DDR4 memory channels, up to eight lanes of PCI-Express Gen 3 I/O as well as crypto and data compression co-processors. It also has ARM TrustZone technology for enhanced security.

The development kit is packaged in a microATX form factor and includes:

• Opteron A1100-Series processor with four cores
• two registered DIMM with 16GB of DDR3 DRAM
• PCI Express connectors configurable as one x8 or two x4 ports
• eight Serial-ATA connectors
• Compatibility with standard power supplies
• Standard Linux GNU tool chain, including cross-development version
• Platform device drivers
• Standard  UEFI boot environment
