Altair Launches CFD Applications on Amazon Web Services

Altair announced the release of CFDCalc, an on-demand computational fluid dynamics (CFD) application built on top of the company’s AcuSolve CFD solver. Leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud application serves as both a software-as-a-service (SaaS) application and as a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) application. According to the company, users can access high-end CFD technology as an online, cloud-based service, and industry experts can take advantage of the vertical framework and develop their own vertical CFD applications.

CFDCalc comes with two pre-packaged, special-purpose vertical applications that were developed for fluid mixing in the industrial and consumer mixing industry, and thermal cooling in the electronics industry. The plans to offer additional vertical applications while promoting experts and developers globally to use the framework to develop new applications.

“Running complex CFDCalc solutions on AWS enables users to have virtually unlimited on-demand compute resources, and allows the CFDCalc services to scale up or down as needed,” said Terry Wise, director of worldwide partner ecosystem, AWS. “We are excited to be working with Altair to bring these innovative and cost-effective CFD solutions to our joint customers.”

“This new kind of cloud application, with an intelligent Web interface, requires no CFD expertise for users, eliminating the upfront cost of purchasing hardware and software, and provides solutions at a fraction of the cost and time previously required,” said Farzin Shakib, vice president of CFD technology at Altair. “It also provides the means for CFD experts to design, develop and deploy calculators on CFDCalc and market them globally.”
