Altair plans to acquire Visual Solutions Inc. The company’s VisSim software is a visual language for mathematical modeling, simulation and model-based embedded system development. The transaction is expected to close at by the end of July.
VisSim is known for its efficient simulation engine, C-code generation and attractive user interface, according to a company press release. With built-in optimization methods, the language allows users to experiment without risk for controller tuning, parameter optimization and what-if scenarios. Add-ons include OPC, CAN, RS232 serial, UDP and National Instruments-based analog and digital I/O aid. It also provides a large library of hydraulic, electro-mechanical, digital power and communication blocks.
“Product innovation is increasingly driven by embedded systems, prompting higher demand for powerful development and testing tools,” said Michael Hoffmann, senior vice president, Math and Systems at Altair. “Visual Solutions has been at the forefront of this domain for over 20 years. Altair is in the business of helping customers drive innovation by the use of computer-aided engineering in the product development process. A move to expand our portfolio in the direction of embedded systems is a logical extension of the company’s commitment to simulation-driven design.”
