AMD introduces the Radeon Pro WX 3200, a new single-slot GPU that strikes a balance between size, performance and price. The 3200 answers the call for a cost-effective, independent software vendor-certified graphics card under $200 for small form factor CAD workstations.
This balanced approach to GPU design is already being specified by leading boutique and enterprise workstation manufacturers including BOXX, Dell and HP. More announcements are expected in the coming weeks. Retailers and distributors will also be selling the board as a separate add-in product.
AMD has worked closely with leading engineering software vendors, providing the WS 3200 with a wide variety of certifications out the door. Participating ISV partners and products include ACCA Software; Altair solidThinking Inspire; ANSYS; Autodesk Inventor, Revit, VRED Professional, and AutoCAD; Bentley Systems MicroStation; Beta CAE Systems; CGTech VERICUT; CNC Software Mastercam; COMSOL Multiphysics; Dassault Systèmes Abaqus and SolidWorks; Hexagon Apex Iberian Lynx, Marc/Mentat, and Patran; and Siemens PLM Software Solid Edge.
When designing the new professional graphics card, AMD addressed a variety of factors including performance, memory, size, display outputs, power consumption and ongoing driver support. The WX 3200 offers 1.66 TFLOPS peak single precision compute performance, up to 33% faster performance in a low-profile workstation graphics card compared with the previous generation Radeon Pro WX 3100 graphics card.
With 4GB of high-speed GDDR5 memory in a 128-bit memory interface, the Radeon Pro WX 3200 card can handle large 2D and 3D models and workflows.
AMD’s fourth generation Graphics Core Next technology in the WX 3200 offers 10 compute units, each containing 64 stream processors, for a total of 640 stream processors available to deliver a number of application benefits, including fast redraw and high-quality images.
The GPU is a single slot, low-profile card, a compact form factor that will fit into nearly all desktop workstations, ranging from small form factors to full-size towers.
The WX 3200 comes with 4x Mini-DisplayPort 1.4 output. The graphics card can drive up to four 4K displays or a single 8K UHD display to provide designers with an immersive ultra-high-resolution experience.
AMD followed an energy-efficient design philosophy, giving the GPU important power monitoring and management technologies. It can cap power consumption at 50 watts max. AMD PowerTune technology dynamically optimizes GPU power usage and AMD ZeroCore Power technology significantly reduces power consumption at idle.
The GPU ships with AMD Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise, supporting the family of AMD Radeon Pro graphics products with performance enhancements, stability fixes and new or updated features on a quarterly release schedule.
