One of the winners of the Airbus “theAirbusway” global, internal competition was a design project that leveraged RTT’s 3D visualization software.
The A380 Virtual Cabin Review project team from Hamburg, Germany, which was honored in the “Drive innovation and deliver reliably” category, was one of 25 winning teams from more than 800 entries.
The winning Airbus project team was challenged by how to collect and merge input from a variety of data sources and create a fully realistic representation of how the cabin of an in-progress aircraft would look upon completion. Combining 3D DMU data, supplier 3D data, visible equipment drawings and more, the A380 Virtual Cabin Review tool presents customers with an early look at their aircraft. The interactive and photorealistic cabin review increases the customers’ connections to Airbus cabins as well as facilitates decision-making processes for them during the production selection stage.
The virtual cabin review also supports upstream definition verification and enables early mitigation or correction of problems. Furthermore, late findings during customer inspections are significantly reduced, which results in significant time and budget savings.
