3D Systems Unveils Geomagic Sculpt and Touch

The software and hardware provides users the ability to create more organic shapes, the company states.

3D Systems has introduced Geomagic Sculpt, a 3D modeling software with the Touch haptic 3D stylus. This technology, the company states, can help designers break down the boundaries of solid modeling and create complex, curvy and organic shapes.

The features of Geomagic Sculpt include:

  • Virtual Clay Modeling: Create complex and organic forms with the ability to tug, ridge, emboss and form just like real clay.
  • Cleanup for CAD Models: The Sculpt platform works alongside CAD programs, so it can be integrated into the design workflow. It adds unconstrained geometry to existing 3D modeling tools.
  • Multi-representational Design Freedom: Design to include only necessary constraints with voxel modeling and Sub Divisional surface modeling with dimension-driven sketch tools.
  • Detailing Tools: Bake textures of any design into virtual clay for the desired look and feel.
  • 3D Print Readiness: Coupled with automatic 3D printability analysis and a voxel-based modeling engine, models in Sculpt are always ready for printing. The platform checks for printing issues such as feature size and proximity.
Geomagic Sculpt and the Touch 3D stylus is available now through resellers.

To see the technology demonstrated, watch the video below, which highlights how artist and inventor Scotty Ziegler uses the application and tools:
