SPEED's Electric Machine Software to Complement CD-adapco's STAR-CCM+

CD-adapco has reached an agreement with the University of Glasgow to acquire its electric machines design code, SPEED software.

On completion of legal agreements, the electric machines design code, SPEED software, will join CD-adapco’s line of CAE tools. SPEED software has been in development for the last 25 years with a customer base of more than 1,000 engineers. CD-adapco plans for a seamless transition so existing customers will not see any downtime.

“After 25 years in the University of Glasgow, I am delighted that SPEED is joining CD-adapco,”  says Professor Tim Miller, originator and director of the SPEED software labs. “It is a perfectly natural transition from one of the oldest UK universities, with one of the longest and richest histories of academic/industrial interaction in engineering.  The combination of SPEED and CD-adapco lays the foundation for a new phase of development in software engineering services to manufacturing companies in electric machinery, covering all sectors including exciting new developments in power generation and electric/hybrid vehicles, as well as all our varied fields of activity.”

CD-adapco’s President & CEO Steve MacDonald, says “SPEED software takes CD-adapco to the forefront of electric machine design and is absolutely complementary to the ongoing organic developments in house. Specifically, to create a detailed 3D electromagnetic solver which will become part of STAR-CCM+ and move the market forward for electric machine simulation.

“These developments mark a significant commitment from CD-adapco in the electromagnetic field, the ultimate aim to further strengthen our simulation tool and provide more solutions to our customers,” he says. “For us to be a serious player in this area requires expertise and one of the most renowned people walking on this planet in the area of electric motors is Professor Tim Miller. Professor Miller will host a live online Q&A Session on April 19th, 2011 for existing customers and distributors.
