Artec 3D Launches Artec Micro Industrial Desktop 3D Scanner

Artec 3D, a developer and manufacturer of professional 3D hardware and software, has announced the addition of Artec Micro, an automated, metrology-grade desktop 3D scanner, to its portfolio of 3D scanning solutions.

Equipped with twin cameras, Artec Micro is the company’s most accurate 3D scanner to-date. Complete with blue LED lights that are synchronized with the scanner’s dual-axis rotation system, Artec Micro creates a digital copy using minimal frames. According to the company, a single click allows users to create a high-resolution color 3D scan that boasts a point accuracy of up to 10 microns (0.4 thou), a tenth the size of a single grain of table salt.  

The company says Artec Micro requires minimal training. After an object is placed on the circular scanning platform, the operator chooses from a variety of smart scanning paths and clicks to begin. The scanning process can be viewed in real-time within Artec Studio. Afterwards, the final model can be exported to CAD/CAM software, including SOLIDWORKS, Control X, PolyWorks Inspector and Design X.

In fact, at a point of accuracy of 10 microns, Artec Micro is capturing details that are four times smaller than what is visible with the average human eye. Now users can 3D scan almost any object with Artec 3D’s line of five scanners; from a tiny mechanical part with Artec Micro to a jumbo jet with Artec Ray.”

With Artec Micro’s high accuracy, the scanner is a useful for geometric and tolerance testing for quality inspection applications. Artec Micro can also be used for precision mechanics and reverse engineering applications.
