ANSYS Inc. has released version 16.1 of its ANSYS portfolio of engineering simulation solutions. Version 16.1 marks the debut of the ANSYS Enterprise Cloud solution for enterprise simulation on the cloud. ANSYS Enterprise Cloud, says the company, enables users to deploy consistent, enterprise-specific simulation workflows and data to more engineers, regardless of geographic location or business unit. In addition, the ANSYS DesignXplorer application for parametric analyses, the ANSYS AIM integrated multiphysics simulation environment and the ANSYS RedHawk sign-off platform for system-aware SoC (system on a chip) power, noise and reliability simulation also see major enhancements.
ANSYS Enterprise Cloud leverages the full ANSYS portfolio of simulation software. By allowing more engineers to access the analysis software as well as the hardware they need, Enterprise Cloud can enable a broader adoption of simulation technologies and help organizations stay competitive while focusing on their core competencies. The company adds that the ANSYS Enterprise Cloud can be deployed within days, which can minimize risks while boosting productivity.
ANSYS says that the new Enterprise Cloud solution, which is supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS), simplifies and accelerates the transition to cloud-based simulation by providing a reference architecture that supports end-to-end simulation workflows, including pre-processing and 3D graphical post-processing. Compared to batch-only cloud solutions, ANSYS explains, this end-to-end solution ensures productive access to cloud-based simulation and minimizes the time and cost of moving files. Additionally, Enterprise Cloud provides users with the on-demand ability to scale their simulation capacity, including infrastructure and software assets, and it offers secure storage and data management.
ANSYS Enterprise Cloud is delivered in a single-tenant environment, which, ANSYS says, secures customer data as well as supports 3D interactive graphics workloads and auto-scaling high-performance computing (HPC). This, the company explains, means that results do not need to move between end users and the cloud data center. ANSYS Enterprise Cloud can be customized to individual simulation processes and can support both ANSYS and non-ANSYS applications.
“ANSYS has supported cloud solutions for a number of years, but ANSYS Enterprise Cloud takes the simulation of complete virtual prototypes to an entirely new level by providing our full suite of comprehensive engineering simulation solutions on a global cloud platform” said Jim Cashman, ANSYS CEO, in a press statement. “Customers don’t want to be saddled with specifying, procuring, deploying and managing simulation infrastructure. That’s where ANSYS Enterprise Cloud excels. Outsourcing the simulation data center allows customers to focus on developing breakthrough products while freeing up capital for other investments.”

In addition to ANSYS Enterprise Cloud, version 16.1 of the ANSYS portfolio delivers advancements in the area of parametric optimization. In ANSYS DesignXplorer, Genetic Aggregation now automates the selection of best response surface algorithms. This is said to result in a highly accurate response surface that’s created automatically and in less time compared to other optimization solutions.
With the new 16.1 release, the ANSYS AIM single-user, integrated multiphysics simulation environment has been enhanced with several productivity innovations, including support for kinematic joints in assemblies in motion.
The latest release of ANSYS RedHawk sign-off platform has been optimized to solve the challenges inherent in 10-nanometer and smaller IC (integrated circuit) designs. This, says ANSYS, includes higher current density and increased reliability challenges such as electro-migration failures. The ANSYS 16.1 version also introduces distributed machine processing, which enables simulation of the largest and most modern IC designs that can be solved fast on hardware found in typical clusters and servers, according to ANSYS.
