Editor’s Pick: Tools for Drivetrain Simulation Receive a Collaboration Update

Times change; smart companies keep up with the changes. For 30 years Romax Technology has been a go-to for drivetrain systems engineering. Their flagship product, RomaxDesigner, has evolved over the years to become a wide-ranging simulation tool. At the same time Romax also has created various specialized tools for specific aspects of drivetrain analysis. 

Today, engineers expect suites to behave in a unified fashion, with all products sharing a common look and feel. Romax has responded with a new collaboration suite that brings all its tools under one roof, so to speak. The result is Romax Nexus, our Editor’s Pick of the Week.

The new suite is solution-oriented, designed for collaborative simulation in a world where the discrete elements of engineering must be solved as a unified whole. Now these six toolsets — previously separate products — are integrated into Romax Nexus: 

• Romax Concept: For intuitive exploration of drivetrain ideas early in product development. 
• Romax Enduro: Structural simulation and optimization for designing durable and robust electro-mechanical drive systems. 
• Romax Spectrum: Full system noise/vibration/harshness (NVH) simulation, from gear and electric machine design through to vehicle sound quality. 
• Romax Energy: A global efficiency prediction tool for drivetrains and transmissions.  
• Romax Spin: Simulation of rolling element bearing, for bearing designers and application engineers.  
• Romax Evolve: Electro-mechanical analysis tool for electrical machine designers. 
• Romax Dynamic Function: Generation of multibody models with an optimal balance of accuracy and complexity. 

Each title works separately, or they can be used as a set of related tools as needed. One person can be the only user of the suite, or separate users can collaborate on projects. It is a level of flexibility in using Romax products that did not exist previously. The company describes the new flexibility as “complete interoperability” that extends to a common file format to enable easy exchange of data.
